Smartphones can increase the life of their battery dramatically, up to 20%, by changing the memory that is being used. Phase change material is constructed of a material that is designed to erase memory when it is heated, and this causes it to use less memory. The change to the memory modules is something that Samsung has announced recently and may be seen as soon as late 2010.

A glass like material is responsible for the phase change material and when heated it turns into two separate forms which has its own resistance to electricity. It is predicted that 30 million laptops will be delivered to Africa by the year 2015. The group that is responsible for this latest change is One Laptop Per Child and this is the expected plan of delivery that is being predicted. Not only will computers be delivered to East Africa, but also the Middle East is on the list and laptops will also be delivered to this area where there is the greatest need.

The group has recently propositioned President Obama for money assistance to help their efforts with this large goal. This group needs to partner with many different sorts of agencies to help make their goal a reality and they are constantly seeking funds to help with this project.
