Despite quickly gaining in popularity in 2009, some are worried that netbooks are already diminishing due to rising prices and better alternatives. Technology is constantly developing and enhancing which is precisely why the basic hit of 2009 is simply overmatched.

The overall trend started in 2007 with Asus launching the Eee PC 700 and 701. What made them so appealing was that they were cheap and easily transportable. Anyone could quickly jump online and check e-mail or handle any other needs. With the rise in popularity, imitators grew quickly.

Unfortunately, the demands are far greater than what basic netbooks can handle. People are looking to do much more than basic e-mail and web browsing on the go. The demands and habits of web users are far too complex than they were just a year ago due to the internet making people increasingly multimedia savvy.

Because everyone has different needs and different demands it is predicted that there will be a plethora of different machines for people to choose from in the coming years. While cell phones offer a tremendous amount of features and gadgets, it is expected that netbooks and other mobile computers are to come.

Something that computers are already enhancing is battery life as Linux offers battery life that is in excess of 10 hours. On top of this, you can expect to see devices made specifically for the type of user. This allows entertainment people to enjoy music and movies while e-book readers can do more than just handle text.

With much change ahead, one thing is for certain; netbooks will and already are beginning to fade. With technology booming and companies working to create the next big hit, there are far more options today than there was just last year.
