It has been determined that the UK is one of the most advanced countries in the world in regards to digital communications. People are paying the lowest prices for mobile phones and the internet, have already switched to digital television, and are enjoying the highest levels of broadband.
On average, a British viewer will watch three hours and 45 minutes of television every day. While this is a drastic increase, it is still not quite up there with Americans who lead with four hours and 37 minutes each day.
As for texting, British are second in the world with 83 billion texts sent just last year. On top of this, the UK is leading the way with access to social networks on the move as 3.5 million people visited Facebook alone on a mobile in the third quarter of the year.
There is no question the internet is the new place to make a living and the UK leads the world in online advertising. They spent the most on digital downloads in Europe and downloaded more than 10 times what the Italians spent.
As far as staying connected goes, Ofcom showed the UK had more broadband connections per household than any other country aside from the Canadians. However, it is important to note that the UK is well behind others when it comes to broadband connections with a headline speed above 8Mbits/s. It was just 10% compared to 37% in the Netherlands, 26% in France and 16% in Germany.
So while the UK may have been dubbed the champions of the digital world, there is still much improvement to be made. Each country has its claim to fame in different aspects of the digital world today.
