Posted by the editor on March 17th, 2010

While cell phones have certainly evolved over time, the so-called smartphone still struggles to complete tasks that should be a breeze with today’s technology. Because of this, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is looking to make corrections on various tasks such as handsets not properly playing Flash videos.

The vice president of Adobe claims you will begin to see Flash player 10.1 on smartphones over the next year, which is the same version you would find on desktops. 19 out of 20 manufacturers will support the video and animation platform minus the iPhone as Apple does not want to support it.

Firefox has recently introduced its browser to cell phone users. It includes features like tabbed browsing, session syncing between mobile and desktops, and 40 add-ons for you to take advantage of.

While Firefox is exciting, it seems to be Microsoft who stole the show with its launch of the new mobile platform Windows Phone 7. It will be completed in November and will provide a more natural feel. It has also replaced Windows Media Player with Zune, which will give you more of a built-in iPod feel.

There are many other innovations and advancements set to be released in the year of 2010 with cell phones including the Israeli-designed Else phone, which will reach any contact, document or application with a touch of a button. A British firm produced a hybrid display using printed LCD layers so that users can change the design of their keypads. Finally, Immersion produced a package that allows users to decide how they want their keystrokes to feel on the phone.
